The Big Acoustic was started in December 2008 as an idea between Matlock Music Shop and The Rendezvous Bar in Matlock. It was intended to enable local musicians and singers to perform in public. It embraces all styles of music and all levels of ability and experience. Many of its performers have played in the comfort of their front room for many years, but never had the opportunity to display their talents to the general public, others are quite new to the world of music performance but still have much to offer. The reputation of The Big Acoustic being a popular place to perform has spread, and more experienced musicians are coming in from outside the local area giving a real variety of musical styles and genres.

The Big Acoustic takes place at The Rendezvous Bar on the first Wednesday of each month, and the Royal Oak Brampton, Chesterfield on the third Wednesday.
